Great Trust of Peoples - Plays Lead role in Mandi Shivratri Festival.The Temple of Lord Kamrunaag also popularly known as “Bada Deo Kamrunag” – Elder Diety, is situated at an altitude of around 3500 meters in district Mandi of Himachal Pradesh. The lush green woods and enchanting natural beauty attracts a lot of devotees around the year. One of the most adventurous places in Mandi district, Kamrunaag Temple is also famous for its Lake.
Kamarunag is one of the best destinations in Himachal Pradesh. Relatively less known Himalayan trek, Kamrunag is not even listed well in the official tourism websites of Himachal Pradesh. Like all other lakes in Himachal Pradesh, Kamarunag or Kumarwah Lake has its own legend.
The lake is completely frozen in winters and only experienced trekkers should go there during this time of year. Reach at the top and see Mother Nature at its best! Walking on the frozen lake and a slide along the slanting snowy surfaces can be a pleasant experience to anyone. For new trekkers, it is advisable to visit Kamarunag during summers.
How to Reach Kamrunag
How to reach Kamrunag?: Kamarunag Lake is located at a distance of around 60km from Mandi Town in Himachal Pradesh. One can hire a cab from Mandi or Sunder Nagar town to reach places close to Kamarunag Peak. You can also get an HRTC bus from Sunder Nagar or Mandi to reach Chail Chowk. Nearest airport is at Bhuntar (Kullu ? Manali Airport) and nearest railway station is at Joginder Nagar. It is advisable to learn about the weather conditions before you plan to visit Kamarunag Lake.
Kamarunag via Rohanda:
(Mandi – Chail Chowk – Rohanda – Kamarunag OR Karsog Valley – Rohanda – Kamarunag)
You will need to climb up a steep mountain to reach the top. Carry enough eatables with yourself. Climbing up the mountain on this trek can be a little difficult for old folks. This 8km long Himalayan trek will take around 4-6 hours in total.

(Mandi – Chail Chowk – Saroa Temple – Kamarunag)
This trek is relatively more beautiful as compared to the one via Rohanda. You will have to walk all the way from Saroa Peak (Located at 15 km from Chail Chowk) to Kamarunag. The trek will take around 5-6 hours in total.

Cultural and Religious Significance: Kamarunag Lake has enormous religious significance in the region. Temple of one of most revered deities in Mandi, known as Kamrunag Dev is situated on the banks of lake. Known as ?Raining God? in the region, people often approach the temple priest in large numbers to for favorable weather conditions. A fair is held at this place on 14th of June every year. People make various offerings including ornaments, coins etc.
